Top Ten Songs I Wish Were Books

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This Week’s Topic is Ten Songs I Wish Were Books

I started out thinking I would do book theme songs but it quickly became a list of my favorite songs that I was trying to match to books, even when they didn’t work I made it work, so this was just easier 🙂

Dawes – Things Happen

Storytime: guy in a bar talking about how the past, even though it was not the best it still make people who they are so celebrate. He probably has a fun sidekick to be his voice of reason and at the end he gets the girl.

Jimmy Buffett – The Pascagoula Run

Teenage kid goes on a road trip with his zany drunk uncle. Hilarity ensues as they go through some zany adventures or something along those lines.

Josh Ritter – Getting Ready To Get Down

A teenager’s parents send her off to bible school because she has become to sexual for their liking. She returns home no better than before and is ostracized by the town. Probably a good coming-of-age story.

“Just turn the other cheek, take no chances / Jesus hates your high school dances”

Brett Dennen – When We Were Young

A coming-of-age story about a group of friends just trying to make ends meet and their adventures together on their way to finding success.

“High school was a catastrophe / It was a failure factory”

Rhett Miller – Cassandra

Boy leaves home for fame and fortune out West. Boy meets Cassandra. Boy and Cassandra fall in love just as their music begins to take off. Cassandra sleeps with the music producer for fame. Boy goes home heartbroken and moves on eventually.

Jason Isbell – Speed Trap Town

All of things a guy goes through in the same small town he’s lived in where everyone knows him but has never had the courage to leave. After everything he goes through he finally gets the courage and leaves to try and succeed on his own.

The Lumineers – Ophelia

A young adult novel about some unrequited love.

Ra Ra Riot – Foreign Lovers

This is the song I picture playing when Brooke hangs up all of the pictures on her wall to make Lukas jealous about her summer away from Tree Hill. Also don’t judge me, I watch way too much tv.

Cardiknox – Wild Child

This is basically the song version of Freaks and Geeks.

Marina and the Diamonds – Homewrecker

“I guess you could say that my life’s a mess / But I’m still looking pretty in this dress”

This line really says it all.
